Live at the Boathouse

Gavin Hellyer thumbnail
Gavin Hellyer Glorious noise fest from Bruce for this gig. I often wander just how long it takes for patrons to get their hearing back to full operational status after attending one of these performances. I recall back in 1989 attending, on the same Sunday, Henry Rollins in Geelong in the afternoon and Sonic Youth in the evening in Melbourne and not being able to reliably hear the telephone next to me until the following Thursday.

about

Recorded in Cambridge, UK on 30 Jan 2017. C Joynes set up the show and also played. It was a beautiful wood-walled hall above a pub, and was in fact on the banks of the Cam. Playing with other guitar players always puts me on my game (or else). A great show which I'm happy to make available for the first time.

about

Bruce Russell Lyttelton, New Zealand

Bruce Russell is an inveterate improviser and practitioner in sound,. Since 1987 he has been a member of the Dead C. He also performs with Alastair Galbraith as A Handful of Dust (since 1984). His solo guitar practice reconfigures the blues as a form of improvisational auto-destruction.
